Exploring life underwater is an ongoing theme on a boat, or at least it should be. How could anyone be so close and not at least take a peek at what’s going on down there?!?
Someone once said that only ever seeing the ocean from the surface is like going to the circus and staring at the outside of the tent.
I think we’re all drawn to the ocean but some of us more than others. My fascination with the ocean lies in its mysteries. There is a big world under there and it piques my curiosity like nothing else. Ok, the ocean and space are probably equal on my curiosity scale. But, the ocean is something I can explore with nothing more than a pair of goggles. Space not so much.
Luckily for us, the crew of @Sailing Zatara likes to dive just as much as we do. So, without further ado, enjoy this journey 60 feet down and into the Caves of Babylon.
WHO ARE WE?
We’re Jason and Nikki Wynn. We been living #OffTheGrid and exploring the world for 10 years.
Our first six years of #travel were an epic road trip around North America.
Now we’re on a #sailing voyage about the world. Did we have any previous sailing experience, of course not!
Neither of us is overly talented, smart, rich, lucky, or retired. But that doesn’t stop us from reaching far-flung destinations, having wild #adventures and managing everything that makes living aboard a moving vessel possible.
We’re two ordinary people that just so happen to live an extraordinary life.
And this is why we publish our lives on the world wide web. We share in hopes of inspiring you to find your adventure.

Jason, did you try taking a lighter to the inside of the mask? There is normally a bit of a film you don’t see. Check out the Divers Ready channel. He’s got a treat video on how to prepare a new mask. You’ll need a lighter and some toothpaste. It’ll sort you out. Cheers! Love the content. -A loyal Canadian follower

Yeah, this is not that film. It's some lens treatment to sharpen details for spearfishing or something but it's just awful if there's turbidity. But it was the only mask they had that fit.

  • Trane Francks
    Trane Francks6 months ago

I can't speak to the veracity of the treatment, but Brady (ex-Delos) would take cheap masks and burn the anti-fog off with a lighter. Claimed after that, no fog. Maybe worth a shot should you feel the mask is expendable should it not work as advertised.

Burn the mask lens with a lighter whenever you have a new mask: Search Results Featured snippet from the web If you've got one at home, burn your new mask before your trip. Hold the lighter's flame close to the inside of the lens, but not directly in contact with it. Begin at approximately 1.5 to 2 inches (35-50 mm) away from the surface. Gently move the flame around the center of the lens in a continuous motion.

So nice to see the Mamanucas and Yasawas in your latest videos! I'm not sure about your flexibility, but if you are all inclined, the diving gets much, much better if you just veer east into Bligh Waters. There are truly epic dive sites along the way to Namenalala like Mount Mutiny, Vatu-i-Ra Channel. Once at Namenalala, you'll be in heaven diving Chimneys and Grand Central (pinnacles on the barrier reef). Continuing east, head to Somosomo Strait to dive the epic Rainbow Reef between Vanua Levu and Taveuni Islands. Then hang out in Taveuni, exploring the rain forest and the waterfalls (Tavoro and the two above it). There are good mooring sites right in front of Makaira Resort --- great snorkeling there too. The bottom half of the east coast of Taveuni (below Lavena) is uninhabited with waterfalls everywhere and spectacular virgin beaches (inaccessible except to boats). You can hire a guide at Lavena to help you find all the cool waterfalls (like swimming through a gorge to see/experience 3 falls falling into what at times can feel like a turbulent toilet bowl). Cruise then a little north east from there to see Qamea and Matangi Islands. Matangi has a very picturesque bay that's featured in "Places to see before you die." And then for some great wall dives, just north of Laucala Island (or "Red Bull Island" -- 7 star resort), there's a submerged atoll called "Motualevu". It's like diving in outer space. . . . I'm sorry to see you've been stuck in the most unpicturesque part of Fiji with muck for beaches, but at least Denarau/Nadi has conveniences. Bula!

Hmm, not sure about the self-taught because he is a professional photographer (so maybe some classes back in the day?) but they use Adobe Premier Pro as the primary video editor. Looking at your mask fogging problem. When you said that you could still see the sticker outline on the lens... Have you “burnt” the lens? You are supposed to burn off the manufacturer’s residue off the lens. Will never fog again. You can look up how to do it on USplan.

it may have "only" been shot on the GoPro 7, but it's still great footage. If you guys are going to keep diving, I'm going to suggest that you look into Paralens. You can set it to turn on at a given depth, and it color corrects all by itself. It's not the cheapest thing ever, but wow it gets great footage. www.paralenz.com/
