THE STORY
Here we are in #Fiji just cruisin’ around the Yasawa Islands. We’re living with our friends, a family of five known as @Sailing Zatara
It’s a quiet, cloudy, pancake kind of morning but we don’t have time for snoring. We’ve got a dinner date with a flock of manta rays who will leave without any warning!
We slip into the jelly-filled water and find a mysterious masked man who’s not a yachter. He’s a dirty blonde and looks a lot like Riley from @Sailing La Vagabonde
His name is Rob and he is a fancy marine biologist who is far from a snob. He said it would be of no burden for us to come over for a tour of his coral garden.
WHO ARE WE?
We’re Jason and Nikki Wynn. We been living Off The Grid and exploring the world for a decade.
Our first six years of #travel were an epic road trip around North America.
Now we’re on a #sailing voyage about the world. Did we have any previous sailing experience, of course not!
Neither of us is overly talented, smart, rich, lucky, or retired. But that doesn’t stop us from reaching far-flung destinations, having wild adventures, and managing everything that makes living aboard a moving vessel possible.
We’re two ordinary people that just so happen to live an extraordinary life.
We share in hopes of inspiring you to find your adventure.

Tip: To see if a egg is fresh enough to eat do this trick: Fill a bowl, cup or glass with water, with water level hight 2,5 3x the size of a egg. Put the egg in the bowl, cup or glass and check: 1. egg levels at bottom with top off egg horizontal) the most fresh eggs 2. egg levels at bottom with top egg up, a less fresh one 3. egg mid level is safe to eat but remember to eat it fast!! 4. egg float at the top, don't ever eat that egg... It is gone way past eating (The egg levels from fresh to waste - bottom (fresh) to surface (waste /don't eat) Greets from The Netherlands!!

Hi! I think your videos would be much more interesting and geared to intelligent people if you would discuss the coral and the fish species by name and with details about how they live, propagate, and what are their natural enemies and how they are faring in global warming. Just swimming around and saying "coral" and "fish" is geared for dummies and is not instructive. We want our kids to watch and learn. If I ask them afterward, what kind of fish and coral did you see?" and they can't answer, I don't feel the videos are worth it, do you? Teach!

  • Gone with the Wynns

    Gone with the Wynns

Corals can be tricky to ID, that info isn't the easiest to find so they may not know it, or they may only know the common name and not the Latin name & common names are just useless. And the rest of that info is a whole science class in and of itself! They don't "teach" sailing here either - the Wynns say that this channel is them sharing their lives and there are people way more qualified than them to teach sailing (or coral ID). If you want your kids to learn to ID fish & coral, perhaps there are channels out there geared to just that? I hope you can find some! Curious Minion

It's disgusting the Wynns are part of the Omaze scam. 85% of the money goes into the pockets of Omaze!! It's a FOR PROFIT company posing as a charity. And these two are bragging about how the money helps people??? Either they are naive or just trying to make a quick dollar suckering people.

  • Gone with the Wynns

    Gone with the Wynns

Omaze doesn't claim to be a charity - it is an online fundraising platform offering campaigns and merchandise which raise funds for various charitable causes. And the charities are still getting more money through Omaze than if they did their own fundraiser or sweepstakes. Their website gives a great explanation of how it all works and how much money from each type of campaign goes to the charity they're supporting. You know how to see an egg is good. Put it in a glas of water, the whole egg. It is is floating throw it away!!! Learned it when I was breeding chicken. And after that it became reallyyyy handy in the Caribbean. Just a bowl or glass of water. If it stands you can still use it but isn’t fresh anymore. If is sinks, fresh egg. If it floats don’t open it 😂😂😂😂

  • stilcrazychris
    stilcrazychris7 months ago

The Riley reference was spot on. Ones from England & ones from Australia.... lol.... Good call Nikki... I was all over that. Jason, also to check if eggs are good or bad. Put them in water. The ones that float are the bad ones. Just an FYI hack from one that has chickens. Also eggs are good for 8 months w/no refrigeration to. I learned this from a show on USplan, that does 18th century cooking & building, ovens, cooking, building, how to's like keeping meat, smoking it, building an oven out of bricks & clay, anything to do w/the 18th century. Did you know w/one of those large crocs, like the ones you put cabbage in & bury it in the ground & get sauerkraut, you can put a water & salt mix & keep eggs for 2 yrs? Crazy right..... I know. Great channel if Rena, sorry if I missed spelled her name, would like to use it in say history class, or something like that for home schooling. The name is Townsends. The man who runs the channel, the host, is great explaining everything. Must give it a watch. Very interesting. Great video I really love both of your channels. Tell the Z Crew hi from me to. Im sure someone has commented this but the best way to test an eggs freshness is sink or float. If it sinks and stays horizontal, its freshest. If it sinks but sits upright, its fine to eat but its not freshest. If it floats at all, it's not advised to eat it and if it floats to the top, don't even crack it, dispose of it. 👍👍

Don't think so. It's courtesy to fly the flag of the country that you are in, and people often also fly their home country flag but it's not maritime law or anything. You ARE required to fly a quarantine flag before you clear customs, but that's one of the few that are mandated. IDK - I'm sure there's a wealth of info out there if you Google it. Curious Minion

If you look at the distance from the equator to the great barrier reef about 1224 miles and north of the equator equal distance is about where most of the marine life live, even the coral reef Why? because its warm in those waters, they have found fossil ferns etc at the south pole, because once the entire earth was tropical. Unfortunately now, only a small area have most of the marine life. Anything south of those areas become limited the further south you go or north.

Someone may have mentioned this already. There is a better way to make sure the egg you're about to use is good. Just get a largish container, filled with water. Put the egg in it. If the egg goes straight to the bottom, it's good. If it's starting to float a little bit, use it quick. If it is above half way mark in the water, throw it out. Pass this on to the Z crew as well. Love you guys!

Ohhhh we've had many a long conversations over breakfast and dinner to iron out our differences. The thing we love about Keith is: We may feel different about the environment, culture and food but he can sit down with us and have a conversation. No hate, no "I'm right, you're wrong", just a good 'ol fashioned let's listen to each other and then think on it. It's so difficult these days to have a conversation with anyone and it's a breath of hope that there are some people in this world that will still listen with an open mind.

It is so cool to watch the man a raise to be able to fly underwater so gracefully thank you so much for sharing these adventures you are so blessed. It is so fascinating to see how do usually you guys sit in with whoever you come across your passion and love for what you’re doing seems to draw people to you. Any word when you may get back do your boat now that things are opening up around you. Take care and as always thanks for sharing

How come Curiosity is now in Fort Lauderdale?

She is not in Ft. Lauderdale & they aren't sure why that happened. Best guess is that some old gear that was removed from Curiosity & not properly wiped was turned on & triggered the check in. Curiosity is still in Tonga & the Wynns are still in Fiji. 💁 Curious Minion

Wow the quality of your videos and the stories you tell are so good now. I can’t help but wonder how good the footage would be with your good camera equipment. Soon. The wait will be over soon.

If you want to know if an egg is bad, drop it in a glass of water. If it floats up to the top, throws it out.

That's why we put the timer, so you can skip ahead. Having an ad in the video means we can turn off the annoying popup video ads from USplan.

That was a lovely breakfast guys and loved your vlog of the Yasawas and the mantarays in particular .... absolutely awesome stuff and a lovely promo tool for the tourism guys in Fiji. The UK marine biologist gave a much in depth detailed view of the coral reefs and marine life in general so that's a plus plus for your diving and the guys in Fiji in general. What a great plug in for Fiji Airways too..... thats subtle marketing guys gotta love that tooo
