Hope is a funny thing, especially when you are afraid to let it in. I typically choose to be an optimistic person, which under normal circumstances is easy enough to do. I let go of my expectations and waltz into the journey with my eyes wide open and my rose-colored glasses firmly in place.
But, my desire for a very specific outcome, for the world to be in a very different state has me setting expectations I know I shouldn’t expect.
And, that is exactly what has happened this week. We get a phone call that leaves us with uneasy feelings of hope. Luckily, we have a boat full of distractions…or should I say a family full of distractions!
We’ve had a lot of incredible days with the crew of @Sailing Zatara and I feel like this video sums up what life on board with the Whitaker family is really like. What life on board with a lot of families probably looks like. It’s my favorite so far and I hope you find some joy in it too.
Join us on the stunning Suncoast of #Fiji for some boat life fun.
#Sailing #Family
We’re Jason and Nikki Wynn. We been living #OffTheGrid and exploring the world for 10 years.
Our first six years of #travel were an epic road trip around North America.
Now we’re on a #sailing voyage about the world. Did we have any previous sailing experience, of course not!
Neither of us is overly talented, smart, rich, lucky, or retired. But that doesn’t stop us from reaching far-flung destinations, having wild #adventures and managing everything that makes living aboard a moving vessel possible.
We’re two ordinary people that just so happen to live an extraordinary life.
And this is why we publish our lives on the world wide web. We share in hopes of inspiring you to find your adventure.

Hello EVERYONE! We are cautiously optimistic about the phone call but trying to be _real_ about the current situation: Tonga's borders are closed and repatriation flights are generally for citizens only. We have told the government that CURIOSITY is our ONLY home and it's our livelihood as well. It's a super-long-shot, but we're keeping our 🤞🏼 We have been a bit sneaky though: We put out a mid-week vid diving the Caves of Babylon! 🤯 Whaaaatttt????? 🤯 I know...I know. We thought people could use a little extra distraction this week. If you haven't seen it make sure and click over: Thank you so much for all the support, we'll see ya next week.

I don’t understand they won’t let them get their boat? That’s what it sounds like, why can’t they just get their boat and leave? Somethings not right. Where is their boat is it at a darker anchor somewhere in the water?

Once you get your boat back in the water, you should team back up. Sail around together. You like all the same places. From the same place. Create a little yacht club. Sailing in numbers is a lot safer and will provide both of you a more diverse pool of content. Start a race. Start a tour for other boaters. A guided tour through the pacific. A safer means of passage. How many people just getting into Sailing would kill for a guided tour of the pacific. And have part of the agreement be that they are okay with appearing on camera. Endless content.

Aren't there like no cases their, much less deaths? Most of the US is totally open except for Michigan where our governor has made the entire thing a political show. I don't know how countries like that are still taking it so seriously because it's a virus with a death rate of like 0.065 percent of the entire population...

Went on camping trip with some vegetarians/vegans my wife and I did bbq work, all the burgers went into the same large large disposable aluminum container, The veggie burgers or kept separated but after they had all been served it was noticed that Beef juice had migrated over to veggie burgers, since all reggie burgers had been eaten already we didn’t say anything. During clean up it was said that those were the best veggie burgers they’ve ever had.

This family you are traveling with just isn’t my cup of tea. Teaching your kids to belch in front of guests- no big deal. Got a lot more icky with derogatory comments about female reproductive processes making sure their teenage daughter AND sons know women can’t be president because they go crazy from time to time. But line crossed speculating the sexual activities of their guest with their adolescent children. Plenty creepy. I’ll join back at a later date. Cheers.

From an European perspective it would be considered beyond rude to not eat of the food offered by your hosts. To prepare your own meal and blatantly make a point out of it is so disrespectful that I almost can't believe it. And I OBVIOUSLY understand that you're pescetarians and that you have some principles regarding that, but then it would be better to just not take advantage of the hospitality of such a beautiful and friendly family. You may think that you're being woke and "cool" or whatever, but you actually appear as virtue signaling assholes.

  • Berserker

@Gone with the Wynns I obviously understood the point of the segment. What I criticized you for was being impolite for making your own meal when food is offered by your hosts. You always made a point out of doing that when you stayed with them. But when I say how it would, from my cultural perspective , be considered rude to put your own ideological principles above being polite, you are rude towards me too and tell me to stick my comment up my own ass. Good riddance.. Yikes!

  • Gone with the Wynns

    Gone with the Wynns

wow, you really missed the point of that segment. it was to show how we share the kitchen and we can razz on each other for our differences and still share table. It shows how people can be different but still get along. So go woke yourself and stick your comment where the sun...well you know the rest. See ya on Sunday big shot.

Wow those fans was huge..... Thank you for sharing that. I love that green stuff you had for lunch. But I've only had it from the American way in a dumb can. I know I'm missing out & would love to try other kinds of spinach. I like to put a little Vinger & two drops, bc you don't want to over power your mouth w/the hotness, of Tabasco sauce on my spinach & oh course salt & pepper. Oh my mouth is watering. I think I'll have it tonight for dinner. Really with a the problems we've had in the states w/spinach being contaminated, I'm afraid of buying it fresh & cooking it down. So I guess I'll stay w/the can. But I'm willing to try anything new. I'm tried of the same oh same oh. If you get that. Afraid oh change. We're all guilty of that I guess. Like my grandpa didn't want a new recliner, but after grandma go it & took out his old ugly outdated chair. You couldn't take it away from him. Oh to funny. He was a riot. And loved that blue chair. I miss my grandparents a lot. They would put out a huge garden & that's how I learnt how to grow & put up veggies foe winter. We would all get together & bring are tomatoes & caned jars to grannys house & have a canning party. Granny, MOTHER, & I & we would get busy. 260 canned tomatoes later, we split them, oh course after they sealed, we would take them home. I love macaroni and tomatoes, kids to, & that's what I would use most of mine for & spaghetti sauce or are spaghetti dinners. Ok enough about food my belly is growling..... lol.... Really enjoyed your video. Thank you so much for them. There a great distraction since I lost my little toy poodle Snickers. She was a sweetheart and she will be missed for years to come and I'm trying to deal with her loss. So thank you for your videos. I really hope you all get to your boat soon. I know you miss it and you just want to be home. I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers that it will be soon you get to return to Tonga & get your home. Be safe and God bless, Chris from Missouri PS. Tell the Z crew hello from me. I would love to visit them and try that kite boarding just for one day. But I don't think my disabled body would be able to handle it, but I sure would give it one heck of a try.

I’ve been following you guys and the Z-crew for a year or so now - You inspired me to buy my first sail boat in February, in Guatemala (I’ve lived on narrowboats and Dutch barges for 18 years on the UK inland waterways). I got on a plane in the UK on 13th March and was refused entry into Guatemala because they closed the border while I was in the air, an hour before we landed. I’ve also been waiting for 6 months to get to my boat. Guatemala re-opened its borders this week. I’m taking my 3 children with me to finally go get our yacht in a couple of weeks ❤️⛵️you guys will get to your boat soon, the window of opportunity is opening, but may not be open for long. Hope to meet you on the water one day soon xx

I have my fingers crossed for you as well that the Tongan Government recognizes the importance of getting back to Curiosity. I remember when I was around six years old, telling my parents "Someday I'm going to live on a boat." This was on the deck of my uncle's cabin cruiser. A few years later, my other uncle taught me how to sail an 8" styrofoam boat called a Snark. I had a Sunfish for quite a few years and also spent weekends on my uncle's 34' Hunter. On October 2nd, I am going to start making that childhood dream a reality. After a year and seven months, I am finally making closing on my home. The very next day, the boat buying process begins.
